SUNDIAL DIARIES

Pandemic Life with Kurt Graser

What are the Sundial Diaries?

Q: What is something GOOD that has come out of this pandemic for you?

Shockingly, there have been a few good items that have come out of 2020. One, I’ve gotten to spend more time with my wife and kids. Working at home everyday isn’t easy when you’re juggling remote education for two kids and running a company during a pandemic…. but as with most families we have adjusted as best we could. My cooking skills have definitely improved, along with my drink mixing skills. Holiday Gin Moscow Mule anyone?

Also, this year has shown me what a strong company we have. I don’t think we would have been in a good position after Covid hit if we didn’t have years of experience on our side and amazing employees. Knack Factory was able to pivot fast and adjust to producing content in the era of Covid and continue working at a high level for of our clients.

Q: What is one thing you would have done in 2019 had you known we were about to enter a pandemic in 2020?

I think I would have traveled to Vermont and Connecticut to spend more time with my family. I would have also invested heavily in ZOOM.

Q: Where will your next vacation be once it’s safe to travel again?

My wife and I would like to go to Ireland and Scotland.

Q: What are your favorite projects from this past year, and what role did you play in them?

  • MixTiles

  • Keep On Keeping On

    • In May, Knack Factory partnered with Bissell Brothers and AV Technik to produce a live music series at Thompson’s Point that benefited local Maine musicians. I was one of the executive producers and I also live directed all the music performances.

    • Weakened Friends Performance

    • Behind the Scenes

  • MPF Foundation

    • In October, we started work on a large project with the Michael Phelps Foundation.  My two roles in this production were producer and director.  Also my kids were in these videos which made it more special.

    • This project is still currently in post-production.

Q: What kind of work would you like to do more of in 2021?

I’ve always enjoyed producing series and would like to develop one in 2021. Be it a travel series, a docuseries about a historical/sports moment, or a behind the scene series about an upcoming event.

Q: What’s one non-KF video that you’re digging right now?

I’ve really enjoyed watching the Mandalorian on Disney +. Everything about this series is perfect. I’ve also been enjoying a few docuseries this year. In particular I’ve enjoyed “The Last Dance” on ESPN about Michael Jordan and the 1997-1998 Chicago Bulls and “The Reagans” on Showtime about Ronald Reagan's political career.

Q: Whatever your holiday may look like, if you’re buying gifts, it’s definitely important to support local this year.  Please share your favorite Maine artisan.

Bull Moose and Letterpress Books.

Q: Do you have a particular favorite product, either from that artisan or another?

Ska and Jazz Records from Bull Moose for sure.

Q: What are you most looking forward to this holiday season?

I’m looking forward to watching “White Christmas” on Christmas day with my family and drinking coffee and Bailey’s out of a large mug.
